Based on a series of routines that differ according to age, this sleep training method uses a combination of assisted and self soothing. These are referred to in this method as “soothing rounds.” It gives your baby the space they need to develop healthy sleeping habits in appropriate increments. Many first-time parents have used this method, but I have found it particularly helpful now that I have more than one child. It’s absolutely amazing to have ONE program follow me from the newborn phase all the way until almost kindergarten!

Healthy sleep habits benefit the entire family. 2.5 years on all three of my children are still fantastic sleepers. The majority of this book is advice and information that you've heard elsewhere - e.g. what temperature requires a visit to the hospital, which symptoms require calling the doctor. It's not wrong, but since it's duplicative of everything else out there, and no underlying reasons are provided, you can skip over nearly everything provided you've read another parenting book. So, you allow your baby to self-settle for 5 minutes, then comfort them and insert the paci (if you use one), and then leave them again. I can say that this works really effectively. Annie would often wake in the night and I would just give her her paci and she’d sleep for another 2-3 hours!

For new parents, having a schedule to follow helps to take away a lot of the guess work. What About Sleep Regressions?

Having some kind of help is a game changer as a new parent. Just understanding the basic attributes of what healthy sleep habits for babies look like will help so much.AM works for many families, but we all have different commitments and schedules so you need to make it work for you. If you’re looking for a parent-led method, then Moms On Call is great. It would also be a great gift for a new mama, as it covers a lot of basic infant care. They give you clear instructions for what to do at night time and how to get your baby sleeping extra well using their swaddle blanket (although, you don’t actually have to use their blanket – see this blog post).
