About this deal

It also outputs clean and consistent photos, and with a wide f/1.9 aperture lens and built-in flash, it makes it great to take out at night as well. This isn't a camera for capturing great artistry, but for capturing memories with ease, this is certainly a fantastic option. Medium format is the next size up from 35mm. Spooled onto rolls, 120 (or increasingly rarely 220) film is used in professional studio cameras such as those from Hasselblad, Rolleiflex or Mamiya, along with some more quirky cameras such as the Holga 120N. He is a Fellow of The Royal Society of Arts, holds a Foundation Degree in Equitation Science and is a Master of Arts in Publishing. He is member of Nikon NPS and has been a Nikon user since the film days using a Nikon F5 and saw the digital transition with Nikon's D series cameras and is still to this day the youngest member to be elected in to BEWA, The British Equestrian Writers' Association.

It's a bit big and heavy for extended handheld use, though, and it's best used on a tripod. High-quality medium format film cameras are holding their prices pretty well at the moment, and you might have to shop around to get a good working, affordable example. And if the medium format is too small for you, then you of course have large format, which is referred to when a negative is anything over 6x9, but you usually find these cameras in a 4x5 or 8x10 configuration. They offer the most micro adjustments possible when taking an image, however, due to their sheer size and the weight you expose your image onto a sheet of film, rather than a roll. Due to this and their impractical portability, you will only be able to take one image at a time, or two images per film holder. Kentmere 400 has a medium contrast look. It maintains a decent amount of detail in both the highlights and the shadows and offers more of a grey tonality than some of the punchier monochromatic films. Its ISO 400 box speed allows it to cover the majority of available light situations but it can be user-rated as high as ISO 1600 provided you ask your lab to compensate during processing (and you don’t mind particularly grainy shots). Emulsion - The matte side of a film or paper which is light sensitive. When film or photographic paper is exposed and processed, the emulsion reveals an image.

B Setting -This “bulb” mode on certain cameras allows you to keep the shutter open for as long as you want resulting in long exposures and light streak photos. While there are some outliers, the vast majority of 35mm films offer either 24 or 36 shots per roll. Film cameras come in many different shapes and sizes and some are fully mechanical, while others rely on electronics to function, while some film cameras are a more viable solution than others just because of the lens choice on offer for the system. Film cameras fall into different size categories, just as digital cameras to today. 35mm cameras were 'miniature' models, believe it or not, and medium format cameras were called 'medium' because there was a 'large' format above that. These use sheet film, usually measuring 5 x 4", to offer supreme image quality. ISO speed - Controls film sensitivity; the higher the ISO speed, the more sensitive the film is to light. For example: ISO 400 is more light-sensitive than ISO 50.

This camera is probably a lot more fun to make than it is to use. It comes as a surprisingly inexpensive kit, but there are lots of plastic panels, parts, screws, and springs to put together so it's going to take some patience and dexterity.Gold by name, golden in nature, this film leans towards warmer tones and oozes nostalgic 90s and early 2000s vibes – think turn of the century sun-soaked holiday snaps. It has a rich look that works well for travel, landscape and moody portraiture. Its lowish ISO 200 rating means that it works best when there’s a decent amount of light around, but indoor work is possible with flash. For more low-light versatility, the aforementioned Ultramax 400 is always a good alternative. As Lomographers we are passionate about the unpredictable beauty in film photography – the chunky film grain, light leaks, rich colors and surprising results. We know you’ll love it, too. Rest assured that we will help make your first foray into the analogue lifestyle comprehensive and fun. Lauded by professionals and enthusiasts alike, Kodak Portra 400 is one of the most sought-after colour films on the market today. Portra 400 is characterised by its beautiful pastel colours, excellent dynamic range and unobtrusive grain. As its name suggests, Portra 400 is particularly well suited to portrait photography, dependably rendering true-to-life skin tones. It used a vertical metal shutter rather than the horizontal rubberized cloth shutters in most rival DLRs but it was fully mechanical so the FM2 could work without a battery – this was only needed for the internal light meter. Its 1/4000sec top shutter speed and tough copper-aluminum-silicon alloy body made it sought after amongst pros, not just enthusiasts.
