About this deal

I get a nice sense of space and depth in the music. The width of the image is exceptional, and for Gaming, these are a real treat. After this EQ, you should be notice many new and 'hidden' details masked even in your familiar music.

AKG K240 is in a higher price category. At the same time, the difference in quality is noticeable. Sure, you’d have to pay more for them. But at the end of the day, it really pays off.

Specifications

The SR850 is a headphone with low impedance which means you don’t need an amplifier to run it, it should be loud enough for listening even on your phone. I do feel the volume could be a little louder though. The volume level does not go too high though many of you would want to avoid doing that to save your ears from getting damaged. Flattening the curves gives you a more true sound in your headphones. Although the sound may not be as perfect in the Samson SR850 headphones, it certainly will be more accurate when played on other systems. Standard fare here comes in a retail box with good graphics and info on it, completely inoffensive cheap and to be honest a tad boring. Accessories The soundstage could be larger for a semi-open headphone, but at least imaging is accurate. Samson SR850 studio headphones come with high-end sound, but cheap design. Why Buy Samson SR850?

A headphone profile gives you a flat EQ frequency response for mixing on headphones. This means you are able to hear all parts of your mix clearer and using the built in EQ-5 tool in Bitwig. It’s not going to be perfect, but will get you almost there and will save you a bit of money from having to buy extra headphone equalizer software. Edit: The mic is inconsistent as it doesn't have a dedicated mic. If you intend to use it for gaming purposes, sometimes your teammates won't hear you. As far as in game sound goes, it's excellent. If you play a solo game, it's fine. But for squad games where your teammates need to hear you, it's a hit and miss Take a look at the image below showing a snapshot of the frequency range of a Samson SR850 EQ pattern when put through a spectrum analyser. We can see there are so many lumps and bumps in there. Before you do that though, the best piece of advice I can give is to try and get to know how your headphones sound. Learn their positive and negative points. Find how they balance when playing particular genres of music. Knowing your equipment is the best way to find your own sound. stuff starts running together, things feel claustrophobic and out of focus, and you can’t really hear what’s going on clearly. Of course, Samson is far from a bad choice, but you’ll enjoy K240 more if you’re looking for comfort. Both headsets are relatively light as well, so you won’t be facing any comfort-related problems with either of them. HD681 and Samson does better and can be transformed more readily into a fun sounding headphone, than HD668B. For modern music I'd give a clear edge to the former.

There were times when it legitimately felt like surround sound speakers in that I could hear things that I kind of thought were noises happening outside of me. An example of this is the Method Man scene in Garden State. Price & Value For Money Winner: AKG K240 8. Pros & Cons: Samson SR850 vs AKG K240 Samson SR850 Pros & Cons Pros:

Features

Once again, we have decent headphones in terms of build quality. You can see that AKG dedicated their time to come up with the best possible design and build solutions for this price category. This goes both for their drivers and structural components. The low-shelf filter can be adjusted for bass and the High-shelf filter can be adjusted for treble. Adjust the preamp accordingly so that levels stays below -0.2 dBFS. Aside from this, the SR850 set goes more into high-ends. Sub-bass territories are kind of “cut off” and the response is mostly flat in bass and mid areas. They still manage to sound pretty great, at least for their price level. The fabric the removable ear pads are made out of is kind of strange, it's almost like a felt material but it doesn't have the same shininess to it. Nevertheless it is very comfortable for the price, and in general comfort of these headphones is quite good. The self-adjusting headband and whatnot is a straight-up clone of the AKG K240s, which certainly isn't a bad thing in this case. Samson have done a fantastic job replicating the design of the K240s while also managing to keep costs low. The non-removable cable is a bit of a downside, but the included cable is very high quality and quite long. Seriously I've never seen gold-plated connectors that look and feel this good. As an Australian drummer once said "they're are symphony of plastic, but AvE has taught me that not all plastics are created equal". That statement is definitely true here, as the plastic that Samson has used for the SR850s is definitely on the higher quality side. The headband is fake leather and the supports that house the audio cable for the other driver are made of metal (maybe aluminum?).

Sibilants T and S will sure be a problem with these headphones, and we suggest either EQing them or trying a paper towel modification. Build quality 2.5 Today I will provide a no-nonsense comparison of these two, and then give my recommendation towards the end. 🙂 While design isn’t something that’s of highest priority, it’s still nice to have great-looking headphones to work with. Additionally, blending in functionality, performance, and aesthetics into one pair of headphones is something both brands and users love.

Similarities & Differences

If the Superlux HD681 or any of its companions is available at lower price than these, then you should be buying those. You'll get better out of box sound quality at expense of slightly inferior build quality. Despite how well these headphones sound, I believe they will cater to only certain groups of people.
