About this deal

The 12900K boasts a substantial 30MB L3 cache, 14MB L2 cache, and 1.4MB L1 cache. How this affects gaming and workstation tasks is uncertain, especially how the OS’s kernel scheduler manages the “big” and “little” cores in the 12th gen CPUs regarding cache allocation. This might lead to smoother multitasking and better workstation performance, not just heavy-duty gaming. The same rough Core nomenclature has been used for quite a few generations of Intel CPUs now. To make sure you're buying a system with a recent-generation processor, look for the Core i x-11 xxx or Core i x-10 xxxnaming structure. Some CPUs designed for thin or mainstream laptops have a "U" or a "Y" appended to the end of the model name, while others have a "G" followed by a number that denotes the capabilities of the chip's graphics processing. Chips meant for power laptops tend to end in "H" or "HK"; and those intended for desktops have a "K" or a "T" at the end (or just end in a zero). That said, a lot of applications are both memory latency and bandwidth sensitive such as Corona. So if you have weak memory bandwidth coupled with weak latency performance, performance overall is going to tank and we see that with the DDR4-2400 kit using the gear 2 mode, which was the default for this configuration.

The i9-12900K doesn’t just focus on gaming but aims to compete with AMD in multi-core tasks where AMD usually excels. It now has 16 cores and 24 threads (up from the previous 11900K’s core count), similar to AMD Ryzen 5950X. However, AMD’s 7nm process is different from Intel’s 10nm process, so real-world performance will depend on benchmarking. Certain demanding applications, like Adobe Premiere, can be operated on an i5 processor. Of course, the advantages become more pronounced when utilizing an i7, particularly when it comes to gaming. The most recent desktop i7 variants have increased core count and threads, accompanied by turbo frequencies surpassing 5GHz. While an i5 can manage lighter tasks, an i7 proves optimal performance for video and audio editing, solidifying its prowess in these domains. Intel Launches 10th Generation 10nm 'Ice Lake' Mobility Processors - Led By Core i7 1068G7 Flagship With 3.6 GHZ All Core Boost Where Alder Lake seems to struggle is in power consumption for single-thread and burst workloads, where the M1 is clearly more efficient, but that's down to Intel operating these parts well outside the efficiency window. I think the tools are there for Alder Lake to shine in low power laptop designs, it just needs an OEM to complement this with an efficiency-optimized product with great tuning, rather than a brute force performance system like the majority of H-series laptops. Shopping ShortcutsAnother notable feature here is that this Dell XPS model is a “creator edition,” which means that the GPU has Studio Drivers – so the creative applications are optimized for the best experience. Rich media and intelligent integrated graphics capabilities enable amplified visual complexity, enhanced 3D performance and faster image processing. All models support up to DDR5-5200, LPDDR5-6400, DDR4-3200, or LPDDR4X-4266 memory, and up to 28 lanes of PCI Express 5.0/4.0. At 75W it's not even close, the extra power shaved off 20 minutes from the compile time on the 12700H which leaves previous generation parts in the dust. Another great example of Alder Lake shining particularly well at high power limits. All models support up to DDR5-5200, LPDDR5-6400, DDR4-3200, or LPDDR4X-4266 memory, and 20 lanes of PCI Express 4.0/3.0.

The Alder Lake H-series targets high performance laptops, while also bringing a range of new platform advantages, including DDR5 support, a beefier Xe integrated GPU and other connectivity improvements. Intel claims these new processors should be the fastest ever seen for mobile computing and we'll be exploring that later in our benchmarks. All models support up to DDR5-4800, LPDDR5-5200, DDR4-3200, or LPDDR4X-4266 memory, and 28 lanes of PCI Express 4.0/3.0. a b Cyril Kowaliski (January 5, 2015). That's a complete look at Alder Lake performance using a wide range of DDR4 and DDR5 memory kits with the Core i9-12900K. Now the question is, what should you buy? The best way to answer that question is to look at pricing first...Intel® Iris® Xe Graphics only: to use the Intel® Iris® Xe brand, the system must be populated with 128-bit (dual channel) memory. Otherwise, use the Intel® UHD brand. Intel Turbo Boost Technology Frequency Table – 5th Generation Intel Core i7 Desktop Processors". Intel. March 18, 2016 . Retrieved April 21, 2016. All models support: SSE4.1, SSE4.2, AVX, AVX2, FMA3, Enhanced Intel SpeedStep Technology (EIST), Intel 64, XD bit (an NX bit implementation), Intel VT-x, Intel VT-d, Hyper-threading, Turbo Boost 3.0, AES-NI, Smart Cache, Thread Director, DL Boost, and GNA 3.0. In a previous benchmark feature, we already took a look at DDR4-3600 vs. DDR5-6000 memory across 41 games and found that the newer and more expensive DDR5 memory was a mere 4% faster on average, though it was up to 20% faster in a few select titles. Both the DDR4 and DDR5 memory used in that testing was very expensive, so today we want to compare a range of memory kits covering a wider range of price points, all of which have been supplied by Corsair. The laptop sports a 15.6-inch display with 4-sided InfinityEdge, which has narrow bezels, so you should be able to get more viewing space. Further, the laptop has a 1080p resolution, which should deliver clear and detailed visuals. You also get a 16:10 aspect ratio that makes the screen appear “taller” compared to a 16:9 aspect ratio.

The next in Dell’s high-end XPS line of laptops sports a cleaner minimalistic design, 1TB of storage, 32GB of memory and options for an OLED display. Early impressions are promising, but after our hands-on, we can’t wait to really put this laptop through its paces when it launches this spring. Most thin and light laptops with Core i5 or Core i7 processors that aren't gaming machines rely on integrated graphics-acceleration silicon that's part of the CPU die. Gaming machines and certain high-end systems, on the other hand, have dedicated graphics chips that are separate from the CPU. All other products will be delivered via the fastest available method (excluding bank holidays and weekends) and generally within 3-5 days, depending on customer location.Irrespective of which CPU one favors, both will deliver excellent performance and hold their own in both productivity and gaming-related workloads reasonably well versus the competition. Game Rant's favorite is the 13700K. It delivers better performance from the get-go with significantly more multicore performance. Also, it isn't priced out of reach like the Core i9 14900K this generation, making it a much more palatable high-end Intel CPU that games quite well too. Based on what AMD is saying, we don't expect Ryzen 6000 to necessarily beat Alder Lake, but we can't know for sure where the performance or value equation will lie. On the outside, the laptop has a 16-inch display, which should give you a bit more room than a standard 15.6-inch display. Further, much like some of the best 16-inch laptops, this one, too, has a QHD display, which should deliver sharper visuals than a 1080p display. Further, you get a 165Hz refresh rate, which should eliminate screen-tearing while playing fast-paced games or videos.
