As a singer, I'd like the vocal part to be more developed and have more tweaking options. I'd like to have more options for the harmonies especially, like gender, response time (for example, the double effect can't be made tighter). There's only certain fixed harmonies you can use and you can't even mix the double effect with another harmony. I mean, you can't get too creative with the vocal effects. Simple layout with USB recording and aux input Likewise, you can also get a good vocal tone with the BOSS VE-8, but I found it to be far less flexible than the other pedals. You can easily throw on reverb, “enhance” (which seems to essentially be compression), and basic vocal correction, which aren’t a bad suite of tools, but if you want to go any further, you have to dig into the advanced settings, which is a huge hassle given the physical knobs and tiny little screen on the VE-8. It’s no where near as easy to tweak the overall tone as it is with the Play Acoustic and Vocalist. That being said, if the standard vocal tone of the VE-8 works for you, then there’s no need to worry about digging into advanced menus, just don’t expect to vary your sound much. The VE 8 will make your solo performing more full sounding with the harmonies and the guitar effects will enhance your show as well. The vocals have a limited set of Harmonies. 9 total. For my needs there are only 3. And I can't use Doubling with Harmony. I have songs where I want Doubling on the whole song then add HIGH/HIGHER during the Chorus. Can't do it. I have only had my VE-8 for a couple of weeks. I had been using an older vocal processor for several years for solo gigs and recording. I was intrigued by what I read about The VE-8 and decided to take a serious look at ho this technology had Evolved over the years. All of these pedals offer vocal effects in that realm; however, I find that these effects usually are more fun for the performers than the listeners… so I’ll leave it up to you to investigate the possibilities in this realm, if it interests you.First, let me say I am only a couple weeks into working with this pedal. I own a VE-2 which I may or may not be parting with, but I will get to that later. so does one button allow you to start the looping process and then pushing it again chooses the endpoint but keeps the loop playing and then the second button stops the loop (and perhaps erases it if you hold it down) I just wished it had some compression inside somewhere, don't get me wrong however, it's a great little unit on many many levels. There is a parametric mid frequency on both the guitar and mic channels as well as high pass filters preset to Off/60/160 Hz. I use the mid frequency on the guitar to lower the resonance around 200 Hz. That way I only have to use the notch filter if I'm pressing the volume.

The Play Acoustic was definitely my favorite of the bunch in this realm. You have a lot of control over the harmonies, which I find very important. Not only is it easy to tweak the harmony intervals, but it’s easy to tweak the timbre of the harmonies and easy get the levels to blend nicely. I found that I would consistently get the harmonies I was looking for with the Play Acoustic, which wasn’t always the case with the other pedals. The harmonies with this pedal are also generally bright and, when playing with a stereo setup, spread well and wide in the mix. They put harmony control right up front in the design of their pedal with dedicated harmony level, voice 1, voice 2, and key/scale knobs. They’re easy to access and easy to tweak. When playing around on various tunes, sometimes the harmonies would blow me away, yet other times I would be underwhelmed. As a result, I found it to be much more inconsistent than the Play Acoustic. “Live adapt” is pretty awesome though. Enable it, and you’ll find nice little accents to your harmonies, where certain notes will adapt or resolve. As long as the little accents it adds are notes that you’re going for, it can add a very nice touch to your harmonies. This is a great vocal and acoustic guitar processor that can be used for live playing connected to a PA system, for recording using the USB computer interface, and for practice sessions for yourself or with a band. The vocal processing includes multiple reverb, delay, multiple harmonies, and pitch correction enhancement. They all sound great and the effects can be mixed with the lead vocal as needed.
