The expression in the illustrations is lovely - I don't know if our 15 month old appreciates them but I certainly do when reading this to him.

In 2013, Jeffers illustrated the vinyl cover (a drawing of Nelson Mandela) for the U2 song "Ordinary Love". on one occasion, Oliver became lost and it wasn't until someone read the label on the back of his shirt that he knew where he was supposed to be. Needless to say despite a terrifying moment where they look like they'll miss each other they are successfully reunited and all is well. There wasn't really any mention about the penguin not being sad while the boy told him stories on the boat, so saying that the penguin was sad again wasn't quite as effective, a page about the penguin being happy would have made a big difference.
