For all the walking on eggshells, and the unpleasant bullying that Beauty suffers, both at school, and at home, I find this book utterly charming, and ultimately uplifting.For the birthday party, Beauty's dad forces her to get corkscrew curls and Skye, Arabella and Emily (bullies) develop a new nickname for her: Ugly Corkscrew. The birthday starts to become unbearable when, at the show, Beauty is too shy to go on stage (the show is to celebrate people's birthdays), and he shouts at her in the limousine as well as ruining her cookies.

Beauty and her meek, sweet mother live in uneasy fear of his fierce rages, sparked whenever they break one of his fussy house rules. After summer, Beauty is sent to a new school where she makes friends, and she still keeps in touch with Rhona by writing letters. Though I enjoyed the other two more ( The Butterfly Club and Little Stars), this one had the same superb writing. Her books always relate to real life and you can really imagine a girl scared of her brutal dad and escaping in a children’s tv programme. She has written over 70 best-selling books, and several have even been adapted for TV – most famously The Story of Tracy Beaker. However, Rhona desperately wants to be friends with Beauty, which reveals one day when Skye is at a dentist's appointment.

I was really sorry for Beauty, and the way she had to lie about what was actually going on in her house. Jacqueline Wilson is such a talented and amazing authour, my poem is getting published in a book and i want to be like Jackie when i am older. Beauty tells her mother, Dilys ' Dilly' Cookson about the teasing and Dilly decides to learn how to bake cookies, even though she is an awful cook, in the hope that Beauty will get a new nickname, Cookie (a play on her surname, Cookson). He tells Beauty about her weight, ask her why she cant be like the other girls at her school like sky.Dilly adalah karakter yg paling membuatku kagum, bagaimana perkembangan karakternya dibuat sangat perlahan tapi pasti. There were some fun and exciting parts in the story when, Dad is went away and they spend their time watching Rabbit Hutch and eating sticky pink iced buns.
